Mowzie’s Mobs Mod adds new unique mobs to the game, but the special thing about them is that each is worked hard on, and things such as AI, atmospheric and environmental appropriateness, and standard-setting animations are the focus. This means that all mobs are made to look ‘official’, as in they mustn’t stand out too much, must be appropriate according to where they spawn, and have unique and interesting behavior and reactions, rather than just attack anything in range.

This also means that progress is a bit slower than other mob mods, as this mod prides itself on quality over quantity, this isn’t about flooding the world with new mobs that pretty much is a zombie or skeleton in another skin. So far, ‘only’ 2 mobs have been released, the Fooliath and the Ferrous Wroughtnaut.

The Fooliath is a jungle-lurking plant monster that really wants nothing more than to eat anything that wander too close to it. At first they will seem like any ordinary fern, but once you get too close the real Fooliath will emerge. Getting in melee-attack distance is pretty much suicide, so taking them out requires a bit of thinking and ingenuity. If you manage to kill one, they will drop Fooliath Seeds. To grow one, get ahold of a seed, and plant it by right-clicking on a patch of dirt or grass. Every half-day of the next two days, you must feed the baby Fooliath by throwing it a meat item, after this it will emerge as a fully-grown Fooliath. Take care though, just because you planted it and nurtured it to health doesn’t mean it is tame, it will still attack you. It can still be used in traps or for home-defense though, so they aren’t completely useless.

The Ferrous Wroughtnauts are heavily armored knights lost underground ages ago. They aren’t men, but they aren’t statues either, though they might look like it. No one knows what their purpose is, be it guarding long-lost treasures or some ancient evil, and they too have forgotten. They do not know if they’re waiting for someone, mourning someone, or anything else. They do remember one thing though: slay any intruders or unlucky souls who approach their chambers. A Ferrous Wroughtnaut are nearly impervious to damage, but there is a way. How is up to you to discover. Killing one is well-worth it though, as they will drop their helm and axe upon defeat. While the helm doesn’t provide protection, it looks pretty bad-ass. The axe is useful though, as right-clicking with it in hand will cleave an arc in front of you. Neither of these items can be broken, they are indestructible.

As you can see, all mobs added by this mod have unique features, an interesting backstory, and fun mechanics. They’re very well-animated, and they’re deadly. They aren’t your run-of-the-mill zombies, and almost serve a purpose as mini-bosses. The mod is still under development, so more interesting mobs are sure to come, and who knows, they may even get their own unique structures, locations, and other awesome stuff in the future.
