Another Splatoon map, this time by the amazing SethBling! If you don’t know what Splatoon is, it is a popular new (by the time of writing) game from Nintendo, where two teams face off against each other, with the objective of painting as much ground and walls as possible in their respective color.
Players play as evolved squids that look very humanoid, and they can dive into their own teams painted areas in order to hide from enemies and to refill their ink. You have several different weapons at your disposal, each different from the next.
The first is the Splattershot, which is simply a ball of ink that you can throw in rapid succession. It takes the role of SMGs and Assault Rifles, as you can throw it fast to cover a lot of ground quickly, but it doesn’t do as much damage as the other weapons. Wherever it hits, it will explode and cover the area in your teams ink.
The next weapon is the Splat Charger, which takes the role of longer range weapons. It functions like a bow, the longer you charge it, the further you will shoot. Everything beneath the arrow will be covered in ink, which can prove where useful. It also does a lot of damage to enemies at full charge, capable of one-shotting them.
The third and last weapon is the Splat Roller. This weapon is quite simple, it will cover anything you walk over in ink, making it very effective at quickly inking the arena with your color. Getting hit by it also means instant death, so it is powerful to boot. However, it requires you to be in melee range, making you vulnerable to the two other weapons.
Splatoons goal is not to get kills however, but to cover as much ground as possible in the ink of your team. Each round lasts 3 minutes, and whatever team has most ground covered by the end, wins.
It is easy to play Splatoon, and everyone should get the hang of it quite fast. Rules and how to play signs are also featured in the lobby, and getting started is a breeze. We have also covered another Splatoon map, which you can see here, and while that one has a wider variety of maps (this one only has one so far), I prefer SethBlings version, as it works better mechanically, and doesn’t have any issues. The squid mechanic is better in the other one though, here you have to switch to another hotbar slot, in the other one you press shift. Both easy and simple to do, but pressing shift feels more dynamic. Nothing prevents you from downloading and using both though, so you don’t even have to chose!
Splatoon is definitively recommended to be played with a group of friends, the arena is balanced around 4v4, but teams can be of any size, there are no limits. You can even play by yourself if you want, although that isn’t very fun to be honest. So grab some friends, download the map, and have some fun!
How to install the Splatoon by SethBling Map for Minecraft:
- Download the map.
- Go to your %appdata%/.minecraft folder.
- Open the “saves” folder.
- Unzip the map you downloaded, and put the unzipped folder into the saves folder.
- All done! Splatoon should now be installed and ready to be played, so enjoy and have fun!
Here is a video by the creator himself, showing the map, mechanics, and a few matches between teams, looks fun:
