The Minetroid Resource Pack brings Metroid to Minecraft! If you’re not familiar with Metroid, it is one of the many successful Nintendo franchises, featuring Samus Aran, a space-faring bounty hunter who protects the galaxy from Space Pirates and the eponymous Metroids. It’s a classic platforming exploration adventure game, and it is loved by many around the world. Currently consisting of over 11 games the series is one of the most highly acclaimed Nintendo franchises.
This resource pack seeks to bring the look of the older games into the world of Minecraft, with surprisingly great success. Pretty much everything is Metroid-fied, mobs, animals, weapons, armor, blocks, everything looks like it came out of a Metroid game. If you put a pumpkin on your head, you even get the Metroid-Prime HUD (although since this is just a resource pack, it isn’t a functional HUD, it just looks nice).
The resource pack is in the default 16×16, so no external programs like MCPatcher or OptiFine is required, but they’re always pretty neat, as they offer randomized and connected textures.
You can now play as Samus Aran, just equip a set of armor, a bow, and start hunting Space Pirates! You can encounter Ender Ridley, Chozo Artifacts, the Ing, Dark Temple Keys, and more! Sure, they’re “just” reskins, but it’s neat nonetheless.
Your allies will be turned into Bryyonian Golems, Tatori, Etecoons, Chozo Villagers, and Dachoras, instead of the normal villagers, wolves, cats, and such. Hostile mobs will be turned into Space Pirates, Metroids, and other kinds of hostile wildlife you’d expect to encounter in a Metroid game.
Weapons, armor, and items are changed into the infamous Beam Weapons, equipment from the Galactic Federation, pieces of Luminoth technology, Skytown Gadgets, or Space Pirate machinery. Use these to survive the hostile world around you, lest you wish to perish like so many before you!
Art are replaced with some new awesome pieces, kindly donated by 23 artists known from DeviantArt. So gear up with “new” pieces of armor, weapons, and the awesome pumpkin HUD overlay, to really get in the Metroid spirit!
All in all, this is a perfect resource pack if you are into Metroid, or are just nostalgic for some old console graphics in your Minecraft! Check it out yourself, if you’re a fan or know about Metroid, you won’t be disappointed!
